Greenwich based Volunteers on Call, Inc. (VOC) plans to raise $100K in the next few weeks to assist in the on-going relief efforts in Haiti. This will be used to purchase rebuilding materials, food, water, nutritionals, toiletries, clothing and tents as well as (if need be) a used double cab, 4 wheel drive, diesel, truck to allow the more efficient and expedient distribution of supplies in the hardest-to-reach areas. VOC would prefer if someone would donate the vehicle, provided it is in good working order and it has good mileage left.
"If we take an account the facts about Haiti, we come to know that before the earthquake, the population of Haiti was about 9 million only and about 40% of the population was under 14 years of age. Hepatitis, typhoid fever and AIDS are the common diseases in Haiti. More than eighty percent of the people follow Roman Catholic and more than sixteen percent follow the Protestant. About fifty percent of the Haiti people are illiterate.
